Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (or CBT) focuses on helping people understand the biological and psychological connections between their thoughts, emotional feelings, physical feelings, and behavior. Once someone understand how these all work together, patients are taught how to change their thoughts and manage their bodies (through stress reduction and relaxation techniques) in order to change their emotional feelings and behavior.

CBT is a highly effective treatment for anxiety, depression, some symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and other disorders that share some symptoms of depression and anxiety. It is also highly effective at helping people learn to cope with difficult life situations and help other people change the ways they act or feel in certain situations.

Interpersonal Therapy.

Most effective with symptoms of depression, Interpersonal Therapy focuses on the patient's relationships with the important people in their lives, such as parents, spouses, friends, children, and co-workers. In Interpersonal Therapy, the patient learns how to understand why they act they way they do with other people, and why other people act they way they do with the patient. Once the patient has a better understanding of these interpersonal dynamics, we then work together to develop new and different interpersonal skills.

My Approach.

I meet each new patient with the assumption that he or she will need a unique approach to address a unique set of concerns, and so I use a combination of CBT and Interpersonal Therapy techniques in order to tailor treatment to each client. As part of our second session, I will let you know what tailored treatment plan I think could work best for you.
