Please arrive about 10 minutes early for your consultation. When you arrive at my office, there will be a clipboard sitting on a chair in the waiting room with your first name on it. This clipboard will have a form for you to fill out, some information about psychotherapy and insurance, and suggested questions you may find helpful to ask during the consultation. Just fill-out this paperwork and I will be out to get you at our appointment time.
The purpose of the consultation is for you to get to know me a little, ask me any questions you may have, and see if you feel comfortable with me. I will also ask you to tell me why you are interested in therapy and what you hope to achieve. It is very important that I believe I have the knowledge and skills to help you. If you feel comfortable with me, and I believe that I am qualified to help you, then we may decide to set-up an initial appointment.
It is very normal and helpful to “shop around” for a therapist. You will invest a significant amount of time and money in your therapy and it is important that you feel confident and comfortable with your therapist. If you don’t believe I am a good match to you, I am happy to provide you with some names of other therapists, so that you can continue to “shop” for a good match.
If I don’t believe that I have the skills and knowledge you need, I will let you know and give you some names of other therapist whom you can contact.
